Her obituary in the Surrey Advertiser on 25 March 1950 reads "At the age of 21 the death occurred in St Luke's Hospital Guildford on Thursday last week of Miss PHYLLIS JOAN HOWARD, of 15 Council Cottages, West Heath, Pirbright. She was ill for only ten days. Educated at Pirbright and Knaphill schools, she worked for some years in the grocery department of the Co-operative Society, Guildford, and more recently at the Brookwood General Stores. Miss HOWARD was a member of the Pirbright Social Club and was engaged to be married to Mr R. ELWICK, of Pirbright. The funeral took place on Wednesday at Pirbright."
